The watermark was really necessary. Found the art featured in some random "45 top type portraits", and wouldn't have found your da without it.
And I totally love it, inspired me to make one myself. (Of Miyavi of course)

I'm aware of an article on abduzeedo.com with a similar title and I do think they link the images. Maybe their site redesign with the drag and drop functionality has overridden the links.

oh and I added color later in photoshop, but these things usually look good in pure type too ^^

Its pretty simple really. Find a photo of the person you want to make tpe portrait out of and pull it into Illustrator (or CorelDraw). After that its a little bit like drawing over the photo. Place the type over the photo according to values in the picture. There are some variations on how you can actually use the type, In our assignment we were only allowed to use the first name of the person. But you can use all different words if you want. Just think that the bigger the text is and the closer together the darker the value will be. Yeah you can overlap the text and everything if you want to. It sounds really difficult but once you start doing it, it's actually very easy. :) I hope that helped some.
